Ghanaian engineer recognised for contribution to FAEO Awards Committee as committee earns top honour
Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) member Ing Sylvia Sampong Ekremet has received a Recognition of Service Award from the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) for her commitment and service to the FAEO Awards Committee.
The recognition was presented during the 12th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week and 10th African Engineering Conference, held in Tanzania in September 2026, bringing together engineering professionals and stakeholders from across Africa to exchange knowledge, promote professional excellence and strengthen continental collaboration.
Ing Ekremet, who also serves on the GhIE Professional Practice and Ethics Committee, was recognised for her contribution to the work of the FAEO Awards Committee and its efforts to advance professional recognition within Africa’s engineering community.
The recognition came alongside a collective honour for the committee, which was named Most Outstanding Committee at the event’s Gala Dinner Awards.
The dual recognition highlights the role of professional service and volunteer leadership in strengthening engineering institutions and creating platforms for excellence across the continent.
For GhIE, Ing Ekremet’s award also reflects the growing contribution of Ghanaian engineering professionals to regional and continental initiatives. Her service to FAEO demonstrates how active professional engagement beyond national borders can support knowledge exchange, recognition of engineering achievement and stronger collaboration among African engineering organisations.
