
The President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), Ludwig Annang Hesse, has paid a strategic courtesy call on Togbe Afede XIV, Paramount Chief and Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, as part of activities marking the opening day of the Institution’s 56th Annual General Meeting and Engineering Conference in Ho on March 16, 2026.

The visit highlighted the Institution’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between the engineering community and traditional authorities in advancing national development. The GhIE delegation, led by President Hesse, included Ing Dr. Executive Director, Enyonam Kpekpena; President-Elect, Ing Sophia Tijani; Chairperson of the Membership Committee, Ing Dr. Michael Ankamah Bekoe; Director of Membership at the Secretariat, Ing. Juliet Mawunyo Gbormittah; Chairperson of GhIE Branch Six (Volta and Oti Regions), Ing Professor Charles Atombo; Public Relations and Communications Manager, Nii Odenkey Abbey; and other senior members of Branch Six.
The delegation was received on behalf of the Agbogbomefia by Togbe Kasa III, Dufia of Ho-Ahoe, together with elders of the Asogli State.
During the engagement, President Hesse expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to the Institution and its members. He noted that the decision to host this year’s AGM and Engineering Conference in Ho was deliberate, aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Asogli State and Ghana’s engineering community while highlighting the vital role of engineering in regional and national development.
President Hesse also highlighted the work of the Institution’s Women in Engineering (WiE) wing, which is championing initiatives to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education among young women. As part of efforts to support education in the Asogli State, he indicated that the group would engage traditional leaders on ways to contribute to the Asogli Education Fund.
In a gesture of support, the GhIE President presented a donation of GHS10,000 and other items to the Fund to support educational development in the area.
Receiving the delegation, Togbe Kasa III commended the Ghana Institution of Engineering for its continued contribution to national development through engineering innovation and professional leadership. He noted that the theme of this year’s conference, which focuses on agriculture and food systems, aligns with the development vision of Togbe Afede XIV for sustainable growth and economic transformation.
He also invited the Institution to participate in the Asogli State’s annual Yam Festival, highlighting the importance of strengthening partnerships between traditional institutions and professional bodies.
The visit set a positive tone for the week-long conference, which has brought together engineers, policymakers, industry leaders, and development partners to explore engineering solutions for strengthening Ghana’s food security and sustainable agricultural value chains.
