The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has once again reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to professional excellence, ethical practice, and national development, as it inducted 183 engineers into full membership at its 47th Induction Ceremony held in Accra on December 16, 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of GhIE, Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, reminded the newly inducted engineers that the oath they had taken was far more than a formality. It was, he said, a solemn pledge to God and country to practise engineering with competence, responsibility, and integrity, always placing the wellbeing of society first.
He underscored the critical role engineers play in shaping Ghana’s future, noting that engineering decisions have direct implications for public safety, national development, and the efficient use of limited national resources. As such, he stressed that the profession must be guided by the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
The ceremony, held under the theme “Engineering Our Future – Do It Well, Do It Right,” celebrated not only new members but also excellence within the profession. Four inductees were honoured for outstanding performance in their respective disciplines: Ing. Clara Mintah Ofosu (Chemical/Mining Engineering), Ing. Godfred Addai (Civil Engineering), Ing. Selorm Kwame Tsikata (Electrical/Electronic Engineering), and Ing. James Afful (Mechanical Engineering).
Beyond the induction, Ing. Hesse used the platform to address pressing national concerns around infrastructure development. He called on Government to ensure that its reset agenda for infrastructure and related services strictly adheres to due process, in line with the Public Financial Management (Public Investment Management) Regulations, 2020 (LI 2411).
He emphasized that infrastructure projects must follow the entire project lifecycle from pre-feasibility and feasibility through design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance. Cutting corners at any stage, he warned, often results in cost overruns, substandard outcomes, and abandoned projects.
The GhIE President further urged the Ministry of Finance to provide project preparation funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enable them to undertake proper feasibility studies. He stressed that only projects that have successfully passed the feasibility threshold should be admitted into the Public Investment Plan, describing feasibility as a non-negotiable requirement for public investment.
He also highlighted the importance of allocating adequate time and budget for preliminary and detailed designs, particularly for design-and-build contracts, to ensure clarity in project scope, accurate costing, and sound technical execution.

Adding his voice, the Chairperson of the GhIE Membership Committee, Ing. Dr. Michael Ankamah Bekoe, urged the inductees to commit themselves to continuous professional development and lifelong learning. He encouraged them to remain active and engaged in the affairs of the Institution by contributing their expertise to its committees and activities.
He cautioned against undertaking engineering work beyond one’s competence and reminded members to use the engineering stamp responsibly, urging them to bear the title “Ing.” with pride, dignity, humility, and a deep sense of professional responsibility.

The Executive Director of GhIE, Ing. Dr. Enyonam Kpekpena, the Immediate Past President, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, and the President-elect, Ing. Sophia Abena Tijani, collectively urged the newly inducted engineers to prioritize public safety, sustainability, and ethical practice in all their work.
They also encouraged them to actively engage in the Institution’s activities, including participation in its Branches, Technical Divisions, Committees, and programmes, emphasizing that active involvement is key to shaping the future of engineering in Ghana.
“The Institution looks forward to your active participation, your innovative ideas, and the impact you will make in your respective fields,” she said, wishing the inductees a fulfilling and distinguished professional journey.
A solemn minute of silence was observed to honour the late Ing. Kwasi Amoako Kwakwa, Fellow of the Institution and the 41st President of GhIE, who passed away on 19th November 2025. Laid to rest on 17th December 2025, Ing. Kwakwa leaves behind a legacy of visionary leadership, unwavering dedication, and outstanding service to the engineering profession in Ghana, a legacy that continues to inspire engineers nationwide.
As GhIE continues to champion excellence and accountability, the 47th Induction Ceremony reinforced a powerful message: the future of Ghana’s infrastructure depends on engineers committed to doing it well and doing it right.
