Join the Ghana Institution of Engineering

Join the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) and be part of the professional body driving the growth of engineering practice, innovation, and standards in Ghana and beyond. Support excellence, uphold professional ethics, and contribute to the advancement of the engineering profession.

GhIE welcomes engineers and professionals from diverse backgrounds in both public and private sectors, including consulting, construction, academia, and related technical fields.

Membership is open to individuals from all engineering disciplines as well as those in allied professions who contribute to the built environment and national development. Whatever your background or level of experience, there is a GhIE membership category suited to you.

A one-time application fee is required, and an invoice will be issued upon submission of your application. Please note that applications cannot be processed without payment of this fee.

You do not apply for a specific membership grade; the GhIE Membership Committee will assess your application and award the appropriate grade based on your qualifications and experience.

Membership Classes

GhIE offers a range of membership grades designed to reflect the qualifications, experience, and contributions of professionals within the engineering profession and related fields. Each grade carries recognition and professional standing, with corresponding designatory letters.

FELLOW (F)

Fellows are senior professionals in engineering or related fields who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. This is the highest grade of individual membership.

Requirements
To be elected as a Fellow, you must:

Hold a recognised engineering degree and/or be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) with GhIE or an equivalent professional body, and have at least 5 years of distinguished professional practice, with evidence of leadership and impact in engineering. OR

Have a minimum of 10 years in senior engineering or management roles, demonstrating significant professional achievements and competencies

SENIOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (SPE)

Fellows are senior professionals in engineering or related fields who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. This is the highest grade of individual membership.

Requirements
To be elected as a Fellow, you must:

Hold a recognised engineering degree and/or be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) with GhIE or an equivalent professional body, and have at least 5 years of distinguished professional practice, with evidence of leadership and impact in engineering. OR

Have a minimum of 10 years in senior engineering or management roles, demonstrating significant professional achievements and competencies

PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (PE)

Fellows are senior professionals in engineering or related fields who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. This is the highest grade of individual membership.

Requirements
To be elected as a Fellow, you must:

Hold a recognised engineering degree and/or be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) with GhIE or an equivalent professional body, and have at least 5 years of distinguished professional practice, with evidence of leadership and impact in engineering. OR

TRAINEE PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (TPE)

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (TPET)

STUDENT
