The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has inducted 39 engineering practitioners at AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, including 35 employees of the mining company, following their successful completion of the Institution’s professional certification process.
The ceremony, hosted by Iduapriem Mine in Tarkwa, brought together the President and members of the GhIE National Executive Council, executives of the Western Regional Branch and Tarkwa Chapter, management of Iduapriem Mine, newly inducted practitioners and other stakeholders.
The ceremony highlighted the importance of professional certification, continuous learning, ethical practice and technical competence in strengthening engineering standards and supporting safe and responsible mining operations.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, Director of Processing, Ing Abraham Osei Badu, congratulated the inductees and reaffirmed Iduapriem Mine’s commitment to professional excellence and continuous development.
He said all 33 Iduapriem employees who participated in the latest certification process successfully passed the examinations, bringing to approximately 85 the number of employees who had undergone the professional certification drive since its inception.
Ing Osei Badu commended GhIE for its partnership with the Mine and urged the newly inducted practitioners to uphold professional competence, integrity and safety in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“Today’s induction is not a formality. It is a commitment,” he said, stressing the need for the practitioners to place safety and professional responsibility at the centre of their work.
The Director of Maintenance and Engineering, Ing Joseph Appiah Kodom Effah, challenged the inductees to build their careers on strong ethical foundations and allow the quality of their work to establish their professional reputation.
He encouraged them to demonstrate the competence and potential of Ghanaian engineers globally, describing them as “the young engineers the world is waiting to see and experience.”
The President of GhIE, Ing Ludwig Annang Hesse, F-GhIE, underscored the importance of professional registration and continuous development in maintaining the integrity and standards of the engineering profession.
He urged the inductees to embrace lifelong learning, adhere to professional ethics and apply their expertise to address Ghana’s development challenges.
Chairman of the GhIE Tarkwa Chapter and Iduapriem GhIE Coordinator, Ing Osman Karim, SPE-GhIE, highlighted the growing collaboration between the Institution and Iduapriem Mine, describing professional certification as an important pathway for strengthening engineering capacity within the mining sector.
He encouraged the inductees to actively participate in GhIE programmes and pursue Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to remain relevant in an increasingly technology-driven profession.
The programme also featured remarks from Ing Dr. Michael A. Bekoe, SPE-GhIE, Chairman of the Membership Committee, and Ing Isaac Boakye Aduenin, F-GhIE, who advised the inductees to uphold the standards, values and ethical principles of the engineering profession.
The professional oath was administered by the GhIE President, after which certificates were presented to the 39 newly inducted engineering practitioners. The ceremony reaffirmed the shared commitment of GhIE and AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine to professional development, technical excellence, ethical practice and high engineering standards, while strengthening industry professional institution collaboration.
