Ing. Kwabena Bempong stands as a distinguished figure in the realm of Highway and Structural Engineering, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Associated Consultants Limited, a prominent private Engineering Consultancy firm in Ghana. His professional journey is marked by academic excellence, significant contributions to the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE), and a wealth of experience in various engineering projects.
Graduating with a BSc. (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1993, Ing. Bempong’s early involvement in student leadership as the Vice President of the Junior Common Room of Independ- ence Hall foreshadowed his future impact. Following his studies, he worked as a teaching assistant in the Soils/Foundation Engineering section under Past President Prof. Samuel Innocent Kofi Ampadu before joining Associated Consultants Limited as an Assistant Engineer.
Ing. Bempong’s commitment to continuous learning led him to pursue a Master of Science degree with honors in Roads and Pavement Engineering at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)/IHE in the Netherlands. His academic achievements were complemented by his role as the class representative for the Student Representative Council (SRC) during the 1996/97 academic year.
Returning to Ghana, Ing. Bempong rejoined Associ- ated Consultants Limited and steadily climbed the
ranks, earning a promotion to the grade of Engineer in 1999. His journey with the GhIE commenced in 1995 when he became a Graduate member, eventu- ally earning full membership in 1999 after passing the professional examination. Notably, he served as the chairman of the Membership Committee of the Council for fourteen years, contributing significantly to its growth and efficiency.
Ing. Bempong’s impact extended to the broader engineering community, where he served as a member of the Ghana Consulting Engineers Association, Institute of Directors-Ghana, and the Ghana Transportation Professionals Forum. His extensive involvement in conferences, courses, and programs, both locally and internationally, underscores his dedication to staying abreast of industry developments.
As the President of the GhIE for the 2022/25 Council year, Ing. Bempong’s leadership has been marked by a focus on innovation and sustainability. He has not only contributed technical papers to conferences but has also shared his expertise as a panel member in various technical discussions.
In his current role as the Chief Resident Engineer, Ing. Bempong oversees critical projects such as the Design and Construction Supervision of Ashaiman Roundabout-Akosombo Junction, the Rehabilitation of the Ofankor to Nsawam Dual Carriageway projects, and the Suame Interchange and local roads Projects.
Ing. Bempong’s portfolio spans over thirty years, covering diverse projects in Highway and Structural Engineering. Notable among them is the Pokuase Interchange and Local Roads project, which received the “Highly Commendable Project of the year” award at the Fidic Contract Users Conference in London in 2022.
Beyond his role in major infrastructure projects, Ing. Bempong has also contributed to building developments, designing and supervising various structures for housing projects, educational institutions, and commercial buildings.
