BE BOLD AND COURAGEOUS HON. SAM OKUDZETO CHARGES ENGINEERING PRACTITIONERS

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) held its 2022 Annual Conference and the 52nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) from tuesday March 29, 2022 to thursday March 31st 2022 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.
On friday April 1st 2022, a technical visit was organized to various sites such as the Jamestown Fishing Harbor Complex Project and a cruise to LNG terminal. The program was climaxed on saturday April 2nd 2022 with the maiden edition of the GhIE Open Golf tournament at the Achimota Golf Course.
The theme was “Engineering, Key to Achieving National Development”. The GhIE President, indicated in his opening remarks that, the conference sought to explore how African leaders were using and intended to use engineering to develop and maintain infrastructure of their respective countries. He hinted that, in this year’s conference, the GhIE hopes to bring focus and attention to the Ghana National Infrastructure plan which was developed by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).
The Executive Director of GhIE, Ing. D.K. Nyante explained that the GhIE Annual Conference is the flagship programme of the institution within the year. It brings together engineers from across the country, Africa and the World to learn and discuss thoughts, share ideas and experiences, create new ideas, network and spark innovation.
The Minister for Works and Housing Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, MP, in his address as guest speaker for the conference, charged the engineering body to complement government’s effort by coming up with innovation technologies, that will produce cost – effective building materials and ultimately reduce the overall cost of housing units in the country.
Leadership of other Professional Bodies who attended the conference were the Ghana Bar Association, Ghana Institute of Planners, Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Ghana College of Physicians & Surgeons, Engineering Council of Ghana, Association of Ghana Industries and Ghana Chamber of Construction.
