BE BOLD AND COURAGEOUS HON. SAM OKUDZETO CHARGES ENGINEERING PRACTITIONERS

In commemoration of the World Engineering Day on March 4, 2022, The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE)-Branch 2 organised a conference and a High School’s outreach. The conference was held at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) auditorium.
The Bono Regional Minister – Hon. Justina Owusu-Banahene, Dean at the School of Engineering – Ing, Prof. Nana Sarfo Agyeman Derkyi, Ag. Pro Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries were in attendance.
The Branch 2 Chairman Ing. Dr. Nyantakyi in his welcome address touched on the fact that, the day is celebrated to mark the significant contribution of Engineers and Engineering globally.
The chairman for the occasion, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako in his opening address indicated that the World Engineering Day celebration is an opportunity to celebrate the significant contribution of engineers by all “citizens of the world” to increase the profile of the field of engineering. Additionally, he said it is an opportunity for government and industry to address capacity and develop strategic framework and strategies for sustainable development. He applauded GhIE Branch 2 for the involvement of basic school pupils as a means of promoting Engineering among children.
To compliment the commemoration, there was an exhibition and demonstration of an automated home security efficiency system built by the UENR Robotics Society.
GhIE UENR later that day, embarked on an outreach to some selected High Schools within the Sunyani East and West Municipalities – St’ Mary’s JHS, Osumase, Odumase SHS and Twene Amanfo SHS. In all, over 70 ambassadors availed themselves in response to a call for volunteers.
Generally, students were psyched to boldly take up Engineering and clear all doubts in their minds.
