GhIE RECEIVES SOLAR PV SYSTEM

GhIE RECEIVES SOLAR PV SYSTEM

Chint, in association with its Ghanaian partners, Process and Plant Automation (PPA) has donated  a 10-kilowatt grid-tied solar PV system to the engineering centre of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) in Accra.

The system is expected to generate a minimum of 40-KWh of energy daily which would save the GhIE office at least 40 units of electricity usage each day.

The Regional Manager of Chint in charge of Africa and West Asia, Mr Gary Gan, said the gesture formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Mr Gan said the installation of the solar system would help enhance the operations of the engineering centre to reduce the cost of electricity bills it paid monthly.

The Chief Executive Officer of PPA and the chairman of the ICT Committee of the GhIE, Ing. Kweku Asmah, stressed the need for institutions and companies in the country to switch to solar energy because of its affordability.  He indicated that the experience from this installation could be studied by other firms for evaluation purposes.

The Ag. Executive Director of GhIE, Mr Kwabena Agyapong, on behalf of the institution expressed gratitude to the two companies for supporting the development of the institution.

He said the introduction of the solar system at the centre would not only boost the work of engineers but would also help to reduce money spent on power.  He stressed that over the years, due to the falling cost of solar components, solar power was now a very cost effective option especially due to the abundance of sunlight in our part of the world and should get more attention.
