The 50th President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, Ing. Leslie Ayeh was inaugurated on the 29th of March 2019 at the Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort near Akosombo in the Eastern Region. Outlining the priority areas for his tenure, he said, “In the coming year, the GhIE would pursue Education and Training; and would fashion out continuous education programs that will focus on issues that will help Ghanaian Engineering practitioners update their knowledge and keep abreast with the latest trends.
The Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia graced the occasion as the special guest of honor. In his speech, he emphasized that “Engineering is a cardinal area in the economic development of Ghana, especially the Indigenous engineering sector.” He showed appreciation for the level of collaboration between the government and GhIE that has made it possible to launch the first ever comprehensive building code for Ghana. He indicated that there were other areas of collaboration with the GhIE in the works including the establishment of policy guidelines for Ghana for the mitigation of the potential impact of earthquakes on life and property.
