Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, during his inaugural address, emphasized four pillars that would form part of his vision for the 2025-2027 Council of GhIE. He highlighted:
The visits are part of a series of strategic engagements with key Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Engineering Utilities in the country, to give credence to the stated vision.
The GhIE President’s delegation included: Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu (Ag. Executive Director); Ing. Dr. Mrs. Enyonam Kpekpena (Chair, Women in Engineering Committee of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO-WIE), Ing. Ebenezer Ato Roberts (Electrical/Electronic Technical Division Chair) and Ing. Nana Poku Agyeman (Civil Technical Division representative), all of GhIE.
The GhIE leadership visited the Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena and his team of ECG technical officers at the ECG Headquarters. The GhIE officials also visited the Chief Executive Officer of VRA, Mr. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo at his office. Finally, the team visited the Minister of Works and Housing, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei at the Ministry of Works and Housing, Accra.
At ECG and VRA, the discussions were centered on the role of ECG and VRA in supporting the enforcement of registration and licensing requirements for engineering practitioners and firms; strengthening engineering governance and technical capacity; and partnership opportunities in professional development, research and innovation.
At the Ministry of Works and Housing, the GhIE delegation formally introduced the new President of the Institution, Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, to the Minister. They also took the opportunity to welcome the new Minister and congratulated him on his appointment. They discussed key areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Works and Housing and the engineering profession. The GhIE team also advocated for effective enforcement of the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819), which provides the legal framework for regulating engineering practice in Ghana. The discussions also focused on collaborating to ensure that GhIE member representatives are nominated to serve on the Boards of Engineering Institutions. The minister was also educated on the current opportunities available to showcase Ghana’s leading efforts towards the achievement of SDG5 at this crucial time when GhIE has been mandated to host and manage the Women in Engineering Committees at the African and the World Levels from 2024 to 2027.
